Here & Now - Ufoasis

This album only touches on the deep history of this influential band. Although they were never household names they played a major part in the UK underground in the late 70s early 80s, including providing lighting and PA for the Stonehenge festival from ’77 to ’84, and formed the back bone of Daevid Allen’s Planet Gong. After about 1985 they faded into the background for a while, until reappearing in 1995 to blow everyone away with ‘UFOasis’ album, featuring some stunningly tripped out space explorations & stunning reworkings of both Tellysong & Secrets. Here & Now will be out playing the massive Wreck N Roll Circus Mad March Tour 2011 (alongside Skip 'Little Axe' McDonald, Eat Static, Spanner, Headjam, Tribazik & more)

V/A -United World Underground Compilation (Music & Elsewhere) 2001.

Mick Magic become a central figure in the world underground cassette scene from the sleepy town of Frimley, south of London. Banging out space rock with his band, Magic Moments At Twilight Time, championing underground bands with his zine, The Mattrix, distributing and releasing tapes with his Music And Elsewhere label ( which later morphed into the United World Underground ), and basically working night and day (when not driving a cab) on underground music activities.
This wonderfully diverse compilation features Into The Abyss (Greece), Dark Star (Germany), Eye (Australia), Earth (Germany), Grass Harp (Germany), Ras.Al.Ghul (Portugal), Idiom (England), Blacklight Braille (USA), Lord Litter (Germany), The Stinking Badger Of Java (Australia), Neo (England), TMR (England), Cosmic Dance Society (Germany), Love In A Plague (England) and Steve Andrews & Ned Zero (UK).
''it was only the first epiphany of many as time revealed that global underground to be far greater than the sum of its parts, probably even more so than any of us ever realised. You think about it; we were all communicating with bands and like-minded souls from the four corners of our world'' don campau

Pharaoh Overlord - #3

Finland's Pharaoh Overlord have distilled thirty years of rock music into a slow, blistering, bubbling, psychedelic ooze. This is the third studio album from the acclaimed three piece of Janne, Jussi & Tomi (aka Circle). Musically it's a lot more trippy and psychelic than Circle, though the hypnotic riffs are still evident and to the fore. Pretty much a perfect cross between the spellbinding experimental freak outs of CAN and the heavy riff drone of Sabbath. Enjoy

Thunderdogs - Thundermental (Doctor Dog) 1991

Taking their name from a 70s cartoon strip by Hunt Emerson (who also did the album cover), the band first released the 3 track "Just after sunrise" 12" EP, which was quickly followed up by 'Thundermental', both released on Doctor Dog in 1991. Thunderdogs, who included members of Webcore, The Ullulators & Ozric Tentacles went on to become the house band for the french circus troupe Archaos in the early 1990s. This remains one of my favorite albums of the time, dubby spacefunk that was also politically challenging, this was the band who bridged the gap between the Seventies and Nineties festival scenes... Cassette Boy - The Parker Tapes

Cassette Boy dust's off his C-90's to release this behemoth career round up totalling 98 track's in 74 mins. A monstrous, mad ride through surreal cut-up's (W.S. Burrough's on laughing gas), genius piss-take musical interlude's, political bruising, what-the-hell plunderphonics. Think Victor-Lewis-Smith- Aphex-Twin-Stock-Hausen- and-Walkman-Chris-Morris-John-Oswald- People-Like-Us, all mashed up beautifully... utilising what must be 1000+ samples. Check the classic underground Jamie Oliver cut-up, 'The Drugs Do Work' Miraculously each track somehow relates to the last and unlike most albums of this ilk it bears repeat plays, time after time after time after time after time after time after...

Sons of Selina - Fire in the Hole ( Delerium records)1999

Psychedelic-punks the Sons of Selina were the spawn of Neil Crud and assorted misfits, who formed the band in North Wales during 1990. Fire in the Hole was the second studio album for Delerium, although by this time they had already put out several cassettes on the legendary D-I-Y label Music & Elsewhere plus a clutch of self released 7''s. Imagine New Model Army meets Hawkwind/Poisoned Electrick Head style acidpunk freakouts.

Justin Sullivan/Dave Blomberg - Big Guitars in Little Europe

When Justin Sullivan decided it was time for a break from NMA. He embarked on a tour of Europe with Dave Blomberg, playing small venues in Sweden and Holland in 1994, using just two guitars. Along the way, they recorded this live acoustic album and after their European tour, Dave Blomberg became a permanent band member of New Model Army. Everything you love about Justin Sullivan's work laid bare, right down to the basic bones of a song.
