Hyetal - Highrise mix

Far out mix from up-and-coming Bristolian dubstep producer welds fresh tracks from Gemmy, Guido and himself on this bass crumbling collection for the Highrise Clothing blog (which has recently been taken down, so i thought it more than worth a repost here) and with a bunch of releases this year on Formant, Soul Motive, and Reduction Records, he's definitely a name to look out for.

Kevin Eastwood - Arising

Kevin Eastwood released at least two LPs(Arising & Blue Moon) and a bunch of 12''s, all released on bristol based Nubian Records, which was set up & run by bristol reggae kings BLACK ROOTS. The label also owned a record shop on Sussex Place in St.Pauls, which has sadly now closed down. Eastwood was a pioneer of early digital roots, Arising was produced by the Mad Professor & released on Nubian Records in 1991. ENJOY.

Experimental lo-fi hiphop duo from Los Angeles formed in 1995, consisting of Justin Warfield & Gianni Garofalo, ex members of cult psych outfit Supernaut. Their seminal debut Secrets of the One Inch Punch 10" was released that year & then followed up in September 1996 with Tao Of The One Inch Punch on Hut Records, their one and only album, produced by Tim Simenon of Bomb the Bass.

Chikinki - EXPERIMENT WITH MOTHER (Sink and Stove)2001.

Bristol electro-punks Chikinki formed after the guitarist brought a 12 track back to the house, absent-mindedly recorded a guitar part and came back a few weeks later to find the rest of his flatmates had filled in the rest. By the time several fully-fledged songs had mysteriously appeared that way, a house-meeting was called and a decision that they should probably get a band together and start playing live. Chikinki, unleash a cavalcade of heavily distorted vocals, howling guitars and electro sqiggles but the real strength of 'Experiment With Mother' is that it retains a claustrophobic, seedy edge with weird moments of beautifully warped melody.

Nice festie friendly collection put together by Continental Drifts, inna acoustic|digital soundclash. Taking the "true spirit of folk" and remixing it within the world of dub and electronics that produces music with the same intensity of both, forging a common thread between the two beyond making people dance. Continental Drifts is dedicated to live music outside the mainstream and acts as an agency for many bands and at least 140 alternative circus and cabaret performers. enjoy!!

VA. - Do It Again (A Tribute To Pet Sounds)

In Do It Again, there are renditions that chase the footsteps of the original versions, but from a sort of parallel roads, while others break the mould directly. The sum of different personalities provides a sense of constant surprise: just imagine Will Oldham and Patrick Wolf in the same record, or Nobody and Daniel Johnston.The treatments from all of the bands on this disc are solid and beautiful. Get ready to hear Pet Sounds the way I think it was intended to sound- creepy and far out.
