Outrageous Cherry - XRays in the Cloudmine e.p. (1996 Mind Expansion)

Outrageous Cherry emerged from Detroit's underground scene of the early 90's, and quickly advanced from playing Troggs, Stooges and Monkees covers in the basement to becoming a prolific lo-fi psych unit. This 20 minute EP was recorded during an impromptu recording session in the drummers kitchen with Mike E. Clark of Insane Clown Posse producing & includes a cover of Silver Apples' "Misty Mountain". Released on Mind Expansion, a label run by Randall Nieman of the space rock group Füxa, with sleeve art by 'destroy all monsters' .

Neil Kelly - in a small room

From keyhole surgery to ships in bottles, some great things can happen in small spaces and this solo album album from Neil Kelly(Diego) is no exception. From one room at home in Bristol, he has managed to shape ten tracks of claustrophobic beauty. Part confessional singer/songwriter, part ambient bleeps and swirls, this album gives the Beta Band a run for their money in the low fi psychedelia stakes with the low slung charm of spacey folk, spiralling rhythms and insistent harmonies.

Stretchheads - Pish In Your Sleazebag (blast first) 1991. re-up

Glasgow in the early 90s was home to a number of exceptionally innovative, angular,high-speed, percussion-heavy,abrasive,dynamic and jabbering post-punk/avant- hardcore bands, including Archbishop Kebab, Dawson, Badgewearer,Dog Faced Hermans, Jackdaw with Crowbar, Whirling Pig Dervish Stretchheads, The Mackenzies, etc...
' Pish in Your Sleazebag' vies with the boredoms at even their most inventive, riddled with outrageous samples, the album is as avant-bezerk as it is simply lacerating. The tape-play becomes high-intensity studio trickery as a few tracks slip into dub-style wipeouts, and there are lots of heavily manipulated between-song interludes.

Chumbawamba - Showbusiness!

Showbusiness! was recorded on the 18th and 19th August, 1994 at the Duchess of York in Leeds, and mixed a couple of weeks later at Woodlands Studio, Castleford. In response to threats from fascists who rang the venue to say they'd turn up mob-handed and trash it "if Chumbawamba play", Leeds Anti-Fascist Action organised two days of security both inside and outside the club. Fittingly, all money from both concerts (around £1500) was given to AFA.

AOS3 - Diversionary Tactics

Diversionary Tactics was the last album from AOS3, released on the bristol label 'Inna State', who also put out albums by Radical Dance Faction, Police bastard & P.A.I.N.(ex members of RDF & AOS3). Noodles of Dub heavy festy reggae, skanking ska, and pisseded off DIY punk. They endeavour to keep their addled heads around the contradictory and confusing areas of radical politics, while they played the 90s free festival circuit around the UK, including the infamous Castlemorton. This album was seen by P.A.I.N as the second in a trilogy that started with 'RDF - Raggamuffin Statement' and ended with 'P.A.I.N - Oh My God! We're Doing it'.

Ashfelt - The Butterfly Chair

The Butterfly Chair was the debut EP for this Northumberland Electronic Duo,released in 2001 on Iris Light, it includes remixes from Zion Train side project Pantonal, 'Ayin and Zion Train. Ashfelt use noise and glitches to create a lo-fi take on the bastion of drum and bass using a wide palette of sound and texture. Anything from the sound of a radio telescope to audio chaff can be heard slowly twisting into a strong rhythmic anchor.
''Broken beats, deconstructed live
drums and bass and bloody
minded sampladelia trample
devilishly over "Reefer Madness"
folk paranoia. Long overdue
release diverts d'n'b away from
the formulaic and onto journeys
through supersurreal filmscapes'
