The Astronauts - Up Front And Sideways (Dizzy Positivity ) 1995

One of the most original and possibly the longest-running diy punk bands, The Astronauts, a constantly changing line-up held together by the single-mindedness of singer-songwriter Mark Astronaut. Up Front And Sideways was originally indended as an LP for Acid Stings, who had released the previous In Defence of Compassion LP & Constitution 7'', it eventually appeared on cassette from the Dizzy Positivity label in 1995. A heady mixture of urban Psych-folk, early seventies quirkiness, flute, violin, stunning operatic backing vocals from kay, all create a real texture of sound spilling into nicely frantic garage band territory. Apparently not as raucous as they can be live, but canny essential if you ask me. enjoy
